Music & Fashion: Armadillo Shoes, Lady GaGa, and Russian Slavery.

2009 November 12

Lady GaGa’s video for Bad Romance was released earlier this week. With the video, of course the avant garde GaGa was the first to sport Alexander McQueen’s “armadillo” or “alien” shoes.

Furthermore, we’re assuming to expect Daphne Guinness to wear them in real life next. Personally I’d wish to get my hands on the 12-inch high McQueen shoes, in addition to his industrialized heels that make me drool. With this, I’m not alone on the intrigue in the armadillo shoes. A spokesperson for McQueen has stated:

“We’ve had lots of people showing great interest in the show shoes,” and a portion of the callers are demanding “to buy them as art pieces.” The shoes are ahead of our time, by innovation, and therefore copyrighted. Such an informing statement will definitely not stop the hype from growing. As for the sample shoes that were shown on the runway: “We are considering organizing a charity auction as the best way to offer them to the public.”

FACT: If you did not know already, the final song played in McQueen's S/S show, was Bad Romance

Moreover, on the video for Bad Romance, Lady GaGa has based it off of a futuristic version of the casually ignored Russian sex/slave trade. GaGa’s approach to this issue, displays GaGa’s hard work and impact on her fans to be aware of situations in the world by an artistic approach. She shows her being drugged with “vodka” to stop her resistance, and then when she’s “well-groomed” GaGa is auctioned off to the mob, thus resulting her being bought by the mob boss. This is, in all, the “Bad Romance” to which the song is concluding to.

Update: One thing I wanted to mention too, did you notice all the gadgets and such in the music video? GaGa has some luscious sponsors. Plus a few other designers worth mentioning, and that brilliant Polar Bear coat.

I really like your insight into this video outside of just being OMG FASHION!!!! and I can’t believe you called Daphne as being the next to wear them because well…she did [but she wore some weird sheltered ones]

Yes!! I’ve been meaning to get to writing a review of the Nars event! Ah, it wasn’t surprising at all that she wore it (typical of her), but she wore it brilliantly.

As much as I love all these crazy McQueen creations as someone who works, plays, lives in fashion I cant understand how you would wear them out and about.. although bravo to those who can and do!

Haha yes! Well Daphne seems to pull off anything effortlessly; but truly they are something that if in one’s possession they’d only be for special occasions. If I wore 12inch heels, damn, that would be dangerous lol. I think they’re easy to walk in even so.
